Rigging MauiSails 2014 TR-X by Micah Buzianis

Mauisails TR-X New sails
Tension Battens first time when rigging. and give them a few extra turns at this point as they will stretch most after the first session or two.

Mauisails TR-X Bottom two battens
The bottom two battens you will want to put a lot of extra shape in the sail from the batten tension so very tight with these two battens.

Mauisails TR-X Apply batten tension
From here up you will definitely want to get rid of all the wrinkles, progressively less shape that you are putting in the sail/batten pocket or less tension on the batten compared to the bottom two battens.

Mauisails TR-X Top 4 batttens, tension
The top four battens don't need a lot of tension but you do want to make sure all the wrinkles are gone and then even go a little bit beyond this so you are just seeing a small amount of shaped starting to be forced into the sail by the batten tension.

Mauisails TR-X Check sail profile and twist
You can also look at the twist in the sail, you want to get a very even twist from the boom up in the sail and if you see a low or high spot in the twist at one particular batten you can adjust it accordingly i.e. less tension if it is standing up to much and more if it is falling off to much.

Mauisails TR-X Formula size
Formula sizes are also pretty close, a little bit more batten tension in the lower battens on the Formula sails and more tack strap tension on the Formula sizes as well but that is the only difference.

Mauisails TR-X Use adjustable Outhaul
Adjustable outhaul-This is a must if you want to maximize you water time and get the most range out of your sails!!!!!!! For the slalom sizes the adjustment range needed is much smaller than on the Formula sizes so you can trim down some of the rope that is needed on these sizes but you should have an adjustable outhaul on all your racing/speed sails. How much outhaul you let off depends more on the wind speed than the angle that you are sailing for slalom and speed, Formula of course is much more dependent on the course you are sailing and the wind speed.

Mauisails TR-X Downhaul
DH is pretty much one setting for all conditions and then you work the adjustable outhaul setting to get the range out of the sail. The settings on the sail are usually very accurate for the DH as long as you measure them correctly and not base them on you extension. From here it shouldn't vary more than 1cm either side. As for stretch I see a little bit over the first 4-5 sailing sessions and then not much after that. After a half season of racing I don't see much more than about 1-1.5cm of stretch.
