I just returned home from the final event of the 2014 PWA racing season in New Caledonia, it was a great event for wind and racing conditions but it pretty much summed up how my whole season has gone.  I had some very good races, had some good speed but had some bad luck with crashes that kept me out of finishing where I wanted to.

This 2014 was a long season with the new addition of the event in New Caledonia in the middle of Novemeber.  It was also a tough season with light winds in Turkmenistan, Sylt and no wind in LaTorche.  I started off the year well in Costa Brava but could never really regain that form even with good wind in Fuerte, where I had a few good rounds but mostly was just on the edge of breaking through.  Turkey was also good winds but again I could not find my form to get a solid overall result.  New Caledonia I felt like I had a good event with good speed and was winning heats but crashes in three rounds at critical times took me out of contention for a decent result and even out of the top ten.  For me it has been a very frustrating year, always feeling like I was right there with good equipment and good racing it was either just a matter of bad wind or bad luck.  I think the most frustrating part of it all was just the lack of good wind for decent racing, it always seemed like we either had wind that was just on the edge or we were sitting around waiting.  Doing all that traveling and spending all that time on the road for mediocre conditions and mediocre results was hard.

There were some good times though, visiting new places like Turkmenistan and revisiting old places that I hadn't been to in a while like LaTorche and New Caledonia.  Even though we were very unlucky in Turkmenistan with conditions and it was more than a mission to get to it was cool to go to a new place and some place that was so unknown and remote.  There is a very nice set up there with a new sailing center and a new hotel, they still needed to upgrade a few things there like the food but overall it was very cool to see, especially the visit from the countries President, that doesn't happen very often.  La Torche was fun to visit again after so many years, even though we did not get to race  I did get to see one of the best wave events outside of Maui and Cabo Verde ever.  I got to eat lots of good food and see a lot of good people that I hadn't see in years so that was fun.  And then to finish the year off in such a beautiful place like New Caledonia was very nice.  Getting to race and hang out with Robert Territehau again was awesome, that guy is a true legend and one of the nicest people you will ever meet!!!  The wind did not disappoint either, with four days of great racing it was a great way to cap of a mediocre year.  The organizers of New Caledonia also did a great job really showing how to put on a professional event and take good care of the racers!!!

Now it is time for a bit of break from training and preparing but it won't be a long one as 2015 racing season will be here before we know it.
