The third Maui Race series race was held this past Saturday at Kanaha beach park and was sponsored by Hot sails Maui who made it a memorable event. It was consistent from the morning with Trades blowing around 15-22 knots.

The morning races were the age group divisions and it was evident from the get go that MauiSails were going to have a good day. Phil won the first battle against Micah in the 40-49 age group but Micah came back to take 3 bullets and win the division from phil with Peter Slate in third place.

Mike Yasak once again showed his class in the 50-59 age group taking 3 bullets and a second to clean up ahead of Jeff Henderson and Matt Daniells in third place.

The women’s fleet had their biggest turn out in many years with ten hungry woman competitors lining up to battle for the crown. Tamara Bockius once again was in fine form starting off with a bullet, then a second and coming back with 2 more wins to secure her third straight title in 2012.

In the afternoon the winds had picked up as stacked pro fleet got underway and once again Micah Buzianis  showed everyone how’s  it’s done taking the first heat in style. Phil McGain sailed well enough to come in second with Peter Slate consistent in third. The next two heats were won by Micah, who won the pro title from his team mate Phil McGain, followed by Pieter Bijl. Also noted in the pro division Mike Yasak in 4th place and Mark Boersma in 5th.

Todd MacFarlane dominated the mens 60 and over division, speeding around the course on his TR-8 5.9 taking out 4 bullets for the day and the new MauiSails convert Szabolcs Maguranyi on his TR-7 coming in second place.

Overall a very good day for MauiSails taking out five titles for the day.
