Kevin Wins PWA Super X World Cup in Costa Brava
18th June 2006
Kevin Pritchard continues on his winning form on MauiSails by taking the PWA Super X World Cup in Costa Brava this time using his new Switch freeride sail. The younger Pritchard continues to put his mark on the windsurfing World as the best all round windsurfer today… it wasn’t enough for him to win the Wave World Cup last week in Portugal, he was determined to prove himself once again and came back from being down before the final round of Super X today to snatch victory from his Brother Matt in a photo finish in the final 5th round at Costa Brava, Spain.
The sailors had been waiting around for a few days with no wind but on the final day the wind finally kicked in early in the afternoon to complete round 4 and round 5 of the event. Kevin got a flying start once again in the final heat of the event and it was all on the line to see who can keep his nerves. His Brother Matt was close on his tail after the first few jumps and closed the gap even more when Kev dropped his sail for a second on his flaka, but on the last straight to the finish Kevin’s superior board speed shined through once again as he passed the finish line ahead of Matt, with Nik Baker in third and the hard charging Frenchman Antione Albeau in 4th. Kevin wins the event from Albeau and Matt now drops back to third.
Another MauiSails team rider who decided to compete in the Super X this year is Taty Frans who has the skill and racing background to place high in the fleet. At the event here in Costa Brava Taty was able to have an excellent final day getting into both finals and placing 7th and 5th respectively. He finished 7th in the event using the Switch sails and expects to improve slowly as he gets more experience. Well done Taty!
An excited Kevin had this to say when he arrived on the beach - "Man this is amazing!, it’s been my goal to win one of these Super X events. My Sails and Boards both feel great and so in tune, and of course my extra training has helped. It’s especially good to win a final round just in front of Matt... it’s good to have this sort of speed on the course".
