US Nationals Day 1
28th July 2005
Day 1 of the US Nationals was televised live on ESPN and later shown on 3 times during the evening. ESPN Americas premier sporting TV network has been running a segment on 50 states in 50 days. The State of Oregon was the feature on Tuesday and windsurfing at Hoodriver was the main feature of the program.
Young Norwegian rider Espen who is here for the US Nationals and FE Worlds was the star rider along with his brother Morten. Both riders were using MauiSails MS-2 and loving the spot light for the day.
ESPN managed to get some excellent footage the day before the event which they used to show off during the live show on Tuesday. This was great publicity for the sport of windsurfing as well as getting MauiSails MS-2 in front of 6 million viewers.
“Scotia and Sam Bauer from VMG have organized a great event here and to have ESPN live at the beach is a big boast for windsurfing. Having the MauiSails logo on National TV during prime time has been amazing for us, it’s exposure you could never buy” Says Phil McGain, MauiSails Co-Owner/Managing Director.
Currently in Hoodriver the winds on Day 2 have not been cooperating and it’s looks like another play day here in the Gorge. Better winds are forecast for tomorrow, so we hope to get in some official racing in the next few days.
