Phil McGain wins US Nationals on TR-1
31st July 2005
Hoodriver was the scene of some epic racing conditions as the US Nationals concluded on Saturday in classic formula and slalom racing conditions. For two days the winds had blown over 20 knots and 6 rounds of slalom were completed. Phil McGain dominated his Masters division taking 5 bullets out of the 6 rounds completed, with local hero Bruce Peterson putting on a good show in placing second, and Bill Weir from the Bay area in third.
In the Formula racing Phil also dominated his division by winning all races and placing 4th overall in the fleet. Devon Boulon won the open division with Jester Vesterstrom in second and Sam Ireland in third.
"A great regatta with 6 rounds of slalom and 8 formula races completed in the 5 days. Hoodriver was setup with a classic wind pattern for the 3 days and the race crew took advantage of that. I’m really happy with the way I sailed and my equipment performed as expected. I loved the slalom here, it’s always good to race against high class fleet, it brings the best out in me and my gear".
