McGain Wins Kanaha Slalom
4th June 2006
The Quiksilver Cup was held this past
weekend, and the winds were up to about 18 knots and some of the pros
showed up. It’s a round robin format, where each competitor is put into
divisions and competes in four heats, with the best three counting to your final
score. Looks like MauiSails is starting to get good covereage in the race sail
market on Maui. Every heat had at least two or
three MauiSails competing.
In the Men's Open division it was MauiSails partner, Phil McGain, who took first place from regular World cup Pro Peter Bijl, with local board builder, Mark Nelson, pushing into third place. Phil used his TR-2 6.6m and Carbon Art 58 combination which he was enjoying in Texas.
Other Mauisails riders included Mike Yasak,
who placed second in the 40-49 age group, and young up and coming rider, Baker
Grant, finishing second in the kids division.
The next one will be in two weeks, so if you're coming to Maui, get into it. You're all welcome to race on a weekend to weekend basis.
